North Park Senior Housing
San Diego
An award winning affordable senior housing project open to all, the project includes 194 total units with 118 market rate units, 76 affordable senior apartments and eight permanent supportive housing studios for formerly homeless seniors. The complex is sustainable, transit-oriented, and mixed-income. PDC's landscape architects provided specialized design for this underserved demographic with street level, podium, and roof top landscapes. On the street level, a double tree lined 'parklet' with seating and dog stations was provided. The podium level has a series of outdoor rooms and connecting corridors, an outdoor fireplace, elevated seat walls with a community garden, an outdoor barbecue and a dining facility accented with overhead bistro lighting. On the roof level is a potted rose garden on top of an elevated deck for asunny overlook of the city. PDC provided services for pre and post construction including "as-builts" and bond exoneration after the project had been completed. It has been recognized by the state level American Planning Association (APA), Golden Nugget Awards, and ULI Awards.

County of San Diego Firearms Training Center
San Diego
PDC delivered transformative landscape architecture services for this facility which serves our local police, sheriffs, CIA, and FBI agents. The project's goal was to provide a sustainable landscape, reduce the maintenance burden, and recreate the use of the land. The entire site was re-invented from unused water consuming turf into an innovative design of native and succulent plants, decomposed granites, and rock mulches. Outdoor rooms and corridors are lushly planted with a tapestry of colorful species of distinctive textures and are now functional spaces featuring shaded grottos and group seating amongst a sustainable palette of vegetation, which is supported by upgraded drip irrigation systems and serves as a model of sustainable landscape design for future projects. As such, the transformation has provided a savings of thousands of dollars in maintenance for our local government services.
Emerald Acres Master Plan
Riverside County, Calif.
PDC provided multi-disciplinary design services, including land planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture, for the 334-acre community. The design blends a mix of 6,000-square-foot residential lots, alley loaded lots, "zipper" lots, and multi-family pads for a total of 534 units. The master plan includes a 4.5-acre commercial area and multiple parks interconnected by community trails to four residential villages. The project also integrated dual purpose and intermittent recreational use of storm basin facilities. Three uniquely themed private parks and a six-acre public active-use neighborhood park are interconnected by a series of trails. All parks were designed with a sustainable maintenance program with the public parks sized to accommodate programed recreational uses.
